Stage Two

As of today, we have ventured into week 13 of the pregnancy, which officially marks the end of the first trimester.

According to the experts that write all the books, the second trimester is supposed to be the polar opposite of the first. While the first trimester is laden with morning sickness, nausea, exhaustion, cramping, loss of appetite, and mood swings, the second trimester characterizes itself with excess energy, food cravings, and a newly developed pregnant belly!

This is Terri (left) and her sister Lori (right) showing off what their husbands gave them.

Lori is only three days behind Terri. If all goes according to plan, February is going to be a crazy month for our family.

Anyways, I’m excited about the second trimester. In a week we will visit the doctor again for our second ultrasound, where we will be able to distinguish arms, legs, head, fingers, toes, and even get to hear the heartbeat.

Right now the baby is only 2.5in long. It can move its fingers and toes or even squint its eyes if the mood should strike it.

(By the way, until the genitalia is unveiled, I must refer to the baby as “it”)

Anyways, we are thrilled to be out of the first trimester and on to stage two.

Goodbye nausea and hello bizarre food cravings. (*fingers crossed*)

I love the pic of Terri and Lori. Reminds me of 55 years ago when both of my sisters got pregnant the night that Poppy and I got married. Their babies ended up being about 3 weeks apart.
